This birthday feels much more different than 30. Thirty one… eek! My sixteen year old self would definitely think I’m so old but, yet, I don’t feel old. Except after 3 days of Disney and I couldn’t even walk the next day. ha!
I always thought by thirty I’d have it all figured out. But this past year has been a bit of a growing year for me. Growing is a nice way of saying sometimes really sucky. There wasn’t anything life threatening or anything I should even complain about but I just learned a lot about myself and am trying to continue to take all I can from this life and become a better woman. There were definitely high and lows and sometimes they occurred at the same time. And sometimes all there was left to do was cry… or eat ice cream. Sometimes everything felt clear and other times life was a murky mess. S0metimes people I don’t even know tried to bring me down but always someone I love was there to lift me up. What can we do but get on our knees and pray, then get up and move forward. (That last part sounded like a really bad version of a quote.; )
Anyways, thankfully I am quite blessed even during the growing times and Collin is without a doubt there to make me laugh & my girls are there to give me loves. My family is all I need. As cliche as it sounds: my life is definitely filled with sheer joy… I just hold onto that. I’m also learning that it’s actually my attitude that determines a lot of it. So bring it on thirty one! I can tell already it’s going to be a great one.
My birthday started out with a little house cleaning and work emails. Then Collin held down the fort and I got to take Avery with me on a lunch date with my sisters and mom. Pedis and Malawis pizza were on the agenda. I realized I don’t do this enough with my sisters. That night Ashley and I stayed up past 2 am talking. This is very out of the ordinary for me since I love to sleep but it was totally worth being a zombie the next day. ; )
Since it’s my birthday I got to choose the restaurant to eat dinner at and since Collin didn’t like my first two choices we ended up at Thai Drift. It was our first time eating there since we usually eat at our favorite, Thai Ruby, but we were surprisingly impressed!
cheeeeeeesssse & uuuuuhhhhhhhh.

Clearly, I still need to unpack from my trip since this is the randomest outfit but at least it was comfy. Beatles and Polka Dots: Skirt, Shoes: Ruche//Pleated Slip: One of the slips we will be selling really soon.
For some reason we always, always forget to get a group shot at Birthday par-tays…!
(Thanks for everyone who came! Love you all!)

I sold glitter banners at Bijou Market but if you are interested in a Happy Day or any custom glitter word banner email me: Lizzy@MakeSomethingSplendid.com
Cut fabric. My strips are 1.5″ x 35″ (before folded in half)
1 Fold fabric in Half length wise then fold the loop end over twine
2 Pull the end through the loop
3 Tighten to your liking and continue along twine
4 I used 27 fabric strips
I always feel like I need to apologize when I don’t post something creative on Monday… and give some excuse or something. Because I really really did make things, pinky swear! Instead of posting them I boxed them up and delivered them to the publisher of my book. And right now I should be finishing up the rest of my projects but I am definitely procrastinating. Quincey is at a friend’s house. Lola is napping while Avery should be home from school any minute. Instead of working on said projects I keep pouring myself another bowl of cheerios. And now, apparently, I’m blogging.
This week is going to be cray-zay town… but I am excited because this weekend I will going to SNAP! and I’m also a presenter. I am speaking on a panel Friday at 10:30 about turning your passion into a business. Are you going to Snap!?
Friday & Saturday I sold a few different items at Bijou Market and we sold out the pleated lace & brown feather slips. Don’t worry, I saved some to post online so you don’t feel left out. : ) It was an incredible market and inspiring to walk around and see everyone’s goods.
Shoes and my favorite necklace: Ruche//Pants: Target
Peach + Grey + Mint is one of my favorite color combos right now.

Last week I seriously was on one. It must have been everything on my plate but I was bugging myself so I know I was on Collin’s very last nerve. I’m grateful for someone who will love me & cheer me up on my bad days.

Happy Monday!
A little happy list today:
Going to the movies last night with Collin to see Hunger Games. woo hooo! It was awesome. We are good about date nights but don’t often spend that precious time at the theatre. It was all I took to not ask him what was going on as the plot unfolds the whole time, like I do at home. “Who’s that…? What does that mean? What’s going on?” Yes, I’m that girl. Read his sarcastic movie critique here.
Singing “More Than Words” from my cassette tape days at the top of my lungs, driving with the windows down. No shame at all.
Pulling up in our garage late one night with the three girls asleep in their carseats. When this happens we sit there for a minute and gaze at their peaceful faces. I felt my eyes get all misty watching them dream and made my heart swell even more when Collin said, “Look at these girls. We made them.”

Cheerios and bananas or Peanut Butter and bananas… I like to eat like a 5 year old.

Counting down for our trip to the beach and Disneyland with my siblings & our families. I think my sisters and I are more excited than the kids. In fact, I know this.
Staying caught up with the laundry… my nemesis.
Laughing hysterically with Collin while watching New Girl. I’m obsessed with the Schmidt character, especially in the Control episode. “I’m wearing my slippiest loafers…”
Learning and growing and stretching and accepting and striving to become a better wife, mother, friend.
Avery is enthralled with drawing pictures of me with my mom & dad. After drawing a picture yesterday she said, “Hold it up to the sky and show your daddy.” I was a little startled by her request but smiled and held it up. She then corrected me,”Not to the ceiling, to the sky! He will love it.” xoxo

…. what’s on your happy list?
Dressing up your kids in their brightest colored pants and then chasing them around the park with your camera trying to get a good shot?! Yep, I’m officially one of those moms. AND if I am going to be one of those moms… I might as well be proud of it right?! (Just say right to make me feel better.)
Well, that’s just what we did & called it the Pants Party.
Emily brought Hayes and I brought my 2 bigs and we ran around wearing all the shades of the rainbow. And we liked it.
I’m sure I’ve already declared my love for colored pants on this blog soooooo I will skip that part and share ideas of how to style your fancy pants.
STYLE THEM WITH:
Polka Dots///Denim///Color Blocking/// Fur///Leopard print///Black and white with a pop of color///Stripes///
SHOP for your own fancy pants:
Pink & yellow: Old navy///Mint: Ruche///Cobalt & Green: JCPenny///Forever 21///JCrew///Anthropologie///H&M///Papaya///ModCloth

Now tell me, are you digging this bright fashion trend?
My little Lola bear. Still at that sweet age where she loves on you all day. Although she has crossed over to the dark side with her sisters and is officially a daddy’s girl. I held onto her as long as I could. Don’t get me wrong, she obviously loves her momma but she has that extra twinkle in her eye for daddy… just look at these pictures as evidence. This is why I won’t stop until I have a boy. Actually I take that back… one more try for a boy… or two… no one. Crap.
I do love how she’ll take a minute from taking everything out of the tupperware drawer to sit by me and share a string cheese and talk about really important matters like if her teefies hurt, where’s her button (there it is!) and the presidential election. She’s got some tough points on that one. PopPop took us out to dinner last night at Malawis and we snapped a couple pictures before. It’s always worth it to lug around your slr.

We stopped by a fountain to trade a few pennies for wishes. Avery’s first wish was that tomorrow would be Easter… which is really random for her so after some coaxing I got her to wish for what we both really want… a trip to Disneyland.
I knew while stepping into these leopard printed pants that I was really putting myself out there for an endless supply of jokes from Mr Kartchner. He was running low on material anyway so I was more wearing them for a favor. heehee But honestly I couldn’t pass them up at Target.
Besides, if I’m going to go out of my way to change out of my sweats, might as well change into something with animal print. (You can quote me on that.;)

This morning I wanted to share one of my secret weapons for adding a pretty effect to your photos in Photoshop… & it doesn’t require any actions. Huzzah!
The photo is a self-timer shot at the airport. I timed it perfectly so it took a pic before any cars drove by and smashed my camera… phst and Collin doesn’t trust me toting it everywhere. (Thank goodness most of the time it’s cozy in a jo tote.)
Annnnyways, generally I edit with Photoshop CS5 but I am sure you can adapt this to work with any software. Since Totally Rad Actions are used on the daily for me, I will show a bit of brightening and sharpening with them in my editing process. Hopefully it’s not too boring and you make it through to the cheery song at the end.
xo, Lizzy

Lately I’m soaking up every second with the kiddos because I am leaving for almost a week later this month and again in March. Even though the kids will be in amazing care I always struggle with being away. You’d think I’d jump into a heel-click and then shout, “freeeeeeeedom” as I enter the airport but I’m usually wiping or holding back tears. They have the time of their lives when I’m gone with lots of fun adventures and I return home refreshed and missing them so it’s happy in the end. Or at least that is what I am trying to convince myself…

Closer: Each year I feel like I grow a tiny bit closer to becoming the wife, momma, sister, friend that I want to be…
I made this layout challenging myself not to use the typical elements I gravitate towards: butterflies, circles, hearts. Instead I used: triangles, stars & zigzag stitching and stamps. I did sneak a couple circles in there. Speaking of sneaking I added something small from my new line! Can you guess what it is? I’ll show you sneaks and small reveal next Monday.
Last night I had this layout on my desk and Collin looked at it… “Honey, that’s sad. Why would you say that?”
I was so confused then I looked over and the “C” for the title detached leaving the new title LOSER. haha I was dying laughing.

The star background is the negative stars from the Studio Calico sticker sheet. The tiny stars are handcut and I added some pearls and rhinestones.
The zigzag stamp is from this set: Hello, There (peachy keen line) I love it. Stamped it on the envelopes for my Christmas cards too.
One of my favorite parts of this layout is the date stamp in the top right corner.
Supplies used:
It’s full speed ahead to CHA (Craft and Hobby Show) at the end of January where I’ll be at the American Crafts booth releasing the new Dear Lizzy line of products. Lots lots lots to doooooooooooo! But I stole away some time to splurge on something to wear at the show. I didn’t end up getting anything below but now I am having second thoughts about that foolish decision. Especially since I am loving those pleats and pumps. Yes, I am one of those weirdos at CHA that wears heels despite the fact you are on your feet all day long. I guess it runs in the family since we literally had to talk my mom out of wearing heels to Disneyland. She’s a glam grandma…! Speaking of the Happiest Place on Earth it is right down the street so hopefully we will get to sneak over there at some point during the week.
Well, while I decide what to wear, I better get back to work… in my pjs.

PS Is anyone going to be at CHA? Would love to have a meet up.

Considering the fact that there is a shiny pile of Hershey kisses wrappers staring at me with shame, one of my goals had a bit of a rough start today.
Good thing I have 364 more days to eat healthier & not to mention a giant chalkboard memo in case I were going to even think of forgetting! Some peeps use a tiny string tied around their finger… we need an eight foot wall as a reminder.
After sharing our goals and explaining what goals are, I asked Avery what her goals is: ”Be good to people.” Could there be a more perfect resolution? Oh, wait… you didn’t hear Quincey’s yet: “Draw a picture of a goat.” Collin and I got a good laugh about that one. But both ideas could truly change the world! !!
Happy New Year!!
