Hope everyone had a happy Mother’s Day! I woke up to breakfast in bed from Collin and a pile of handmade cards including a singing one to the classic song by Gloria Taylor I will survive! It said, “When other mom’s would’ve given up… you said… I will survive! I will survive! Oh as long as I know how to live I know I’ll be alive.” haha made me laugh.
I posted this on Instagram but I think it was a couple months ago when Quincey threw a shoe at me (lol) that I realized I needed some momma inspiration on how to better connect with my wild child. Her favorite thing to do together is bake so it was over spring break when I had something to make together for everyday. She loves it and we are trying to continue this at least on Sundays. Other kids ask to help but we just make it our time. Her love language is quality time… and cupcakes. 🙂
Wanted to share some of my favorite maxi dresses because they are so feminine and pretty. I love wearing them to church and in the summer. I chose some of my favorites I spotted online and the one I am wearing you can find here…
This girl is graduating Kindergarten and will remind you every day.
She does cartwheels every where she goes. Literally. Everywhere. In the middle of Costco or in the parking lot or at church.
I’ve been sick the past few days and she’s so concerned making sure I’m ok and bringing me her stuffed animals to lay with me. She’s the kind of light in this world tha aches me to think of someone dulling that sparkle or making her feel small… since she would never do that to anyone. But life is hard and it’s scary to think our kids will go through trials but I also know that this little firecracker will have the sunshine in her heart to get through even the darkest days. Because that’s what she does for me!
To match her bright spirit I am loving the colorful florals at Old Navy right now. She lives in leggings probably so she can do her cartwheels everywhere… These florals ones are too cute. And mixing in with the stripes and other patterns makes it easy to stretch the clothes into different outfit options. Her and Quincey are sharing this denim vest right now and it is super cute! We still have some chilly days last week so I loved this mustard yellow sweater to throw on over a tunic or dress.

Love the theme to go along with this collaboration + Old Navy! It’s called greenhouse charm… definitely captures what spring is all about.
Can’t believe it’s April which mean this month my baby turns 4! That’s crazy. One thing I was thinking about is how lucky he is to have a best friend like Lola. It’s definitely shaped who is he to have this cheerful sister by his side everyday. They share a room and I heard Lola tell Myles if he gets scared he can come sleep on the top bunk with her. They are double trouble too.
In high school, which seems like forever ago (because it was forever ago), for one of our classes we took a personality test. I remember thinking, whatever this is so lame, like an annoying teenager would. But to this day I still remember my results. I thought it was so awesome because it was spot on. It goes into much more detail but sensitive, moody, sincere, dependable, easily frustrated, creative, and likes to have fun! Could have summed me up.
Well a couple weeks ago, for a church activity with the youth in the church I attend, we took the test. The results were the same except I lost the fun part and it was replaced with the peacemaker color. Which makes sense, I guess, since I’m an old maid now. hehe.
Can you guess what color I am? BLUE. It’s crazy how blue I am. When I read this description it weirds me out that someone could figure out the science of my personality so well. How I deal with situations, conflict as well as needs and wants. Then the next color was white. But I used to be blue/yellow. It made me realize that I want that fun, spontaneous side of me back. (There’s a free test on line you can take at Color Code.)
So the reason I bring this up, is we all know how different kids’ personalities are. Even siblings raised in the same environment with the same parents. As I struggle to discipline, reward, love and nurture these four wonderful souls. I realize that what works with one of them doesn’t work for another. I was trying to figure out what color each one is… and it’s kind of tricky. But I’m figuring it out and how to best respond and validate their needs. Striving to make their light and color be the brightest it can be. And celebrating who each person is! Some days are tougher than others. I definitely live for the small moral victories, a spontaneous hug and kiss. Or Myles’s tender but matter of factly “I like you” that melts my heart.
There’s an awesome article here for kids and personality color coding and a simpler tool below:

Have you taken it? What color are you?
Last night I couldn’t sleep. I had a feeling that I might have left the garage door open so I went down there at like 3 am. The door was closed and there weren’t any murderers hiding out. JUST A FREAKING HUGE SPIDER! Like trianchula size. And I realize I probably didn’t spell that spider word correct but there’s no way I’m goggling it and have to see pics of it only to relive this creepy moment. The thing is the second it saw me, like 10 feet away, it crawled/lunged towards me. Fast. Which scared the crap out of me so I screamed and ran around to the other side of the car. Haha. Then I had a grand idea, grabbed the bug spray that has a hose with a trigger and shoot some at it while peeking around the car. It literally just sat there. Then I grabbed a basketball and chucked it at it. I missed because I’ve never had good aim and it run to the wall by the freezer. Now I had it cornered. Also please note I could actually hear its legs crawling when it ran. (shudder) So I mustered up some courage grabbed a pair of skis and killed it. Not my beautiful skis, of course! Some old red and gold ones from the 80’s that Collin is still holding onto because he was skiing and cut off Robert Redford while wearing them or something.
I kinda feel bad now though. Not about the skis, the spider. But that thing would eat me and my children if I would’ve let it live. Or bite me on the arm and I’d lose a limb. Okay, I still feel bad. After that I really couldn’t sleep and I could feel his spider friends coming for revenge on my legs all night. Needless to say my head hurts. Collin is traveling for work or I would’ve been soundly sleeping. I can’t sleep sometimes when he’s gone.
Waking up to these cute pics in my inbox brightened my day though. Love this boy… and donuts! Chocolate is definitely the cure for a tired headache like this!

Obsessed with this skirt. Plus it’s on sale right now and it’s so adorable to dress up or down. Cute cute! And those tees are my favorite. I have multiple colors. Just wanted to share! xoxo

The other day I looked in the mirror, it was one of those loooong days that you just want to end and go to bed before it’s even dark. When 7:25 finally rolls around, “Is it bedtime yet?”
As I was splashing water on my face and cleaning off yesterday’s makeup… I looked like a zombie mommy and that’s being nice. I realized that no matter how dead I look this cute boy of mine has been giving me kisses, asking me to hold him and smiling at me all day. He loves me no matter what. That genuine love is what it’s allllll about and why I adore being his momma. Why I can handle these tough days. Why I appreciate the good days even more. Why I smile so big when I see him wave to me from the top of the slide of the playground before jumps into the tube and slides down. Why I feel like the luckiest.
All the girls were in school so we had some fun one on one time. Myles actually starts preschool (gasp!) That’s crazy! How is he old enough for preschool already?! It’s only two days a week for a few hours so basically I’ll take a shower and get a few things done and he’ll be home. No I don’t take that long of showers, what I mean is, his school time will be done before I know it! 😉
Shared this on Instagram yesterday, but he uninvited me to his birthday party… in April. I don’t even remember what it was about but I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry because it’s basically the biggest insult from a three year old. I think I laughed though.
Pretty soon he will forgive me when he realizes who brings the cake!!
We partnered with Zappos and we both got some new kicks from Superga! They’re this cool Italian brand and definitely inspired me to get out of mommy zombie mode and go on a mom and Myles date. Comfy and stylish snake skill sneaks. Not to mention Myles’s high tops have two zippers on each shoe so you can keep it tied and just unzip off and zip them back on. That’s my favorite kind of kid’s shoe… one that you don’t have to tie! I’ll probably be living in these this fall.
Who says Junior High is the most embarrassing time? I still manage to embarrass myself as a grown adult. Like today, when my daughter answered the door for me and I forgot that I hadn’t snapped the bodysuit and it was untucked. I had also ran errands all morning. Sooo yeah. There’s a reason everyone stopped wearing these in the nineties. Because A: It’s a permanent wedgie and B: Because of what happened to me. But mostly cause the wedgie thing.
Why did I buy a bodysuit you might ask? You see, in my defense, I was with my girls school shopping and we stopped at Forever 21 and I thought I’d just give it a go since it was so cheap. But after this, I realized maybe it’s time I start shopping at Forever 35. bwahaha
Last year we didn’t take any formal family pictures like we typically do. And now as I am coordinating everything I can see why it can be a lot of work to match everyone, find a photographer, talk your husband into it and find a good time for everyone. Then I remembered KISS. Keep it simple stupid. Now I can see why denim on denim was so popular. How easy is that? Everyone put on all the denim in the house!
After searching for something to wear I thought I’d share some of my favorite dresses out there just in case anyone is looking for a holiday or family photo option as well. The striped one above is from Shabby Apple. I love all their recent Winter release!
Also this grey dress is one of my favorites and under 30.
With three girls and a boy, it is pretty incredible to witness how different each little soul is. How they are born with different ways to show love and be loved. With Lola, her love language includes hugs and quality time. To fall asleep I have to be laying by her and she’s a teddy bear that wants snuggles as much as possible. She loves to sit at the table and play with Legos for hours and wants me to join her and make something together. It’s crazy how long those plastic pegs can keep her occupied. I love how Avery is different, and older now, but her love language is talking (including me listening to her for long periods of time) and laughter… with hugs still being important. That one I hope never goes away.
Is it possible that balloons can be a love language too? Cause they definitely are to this four year old…!
The air is getting crisper and I am spotting red trees in the mountains in our backyard. This transition from summer is always refreshing!
Any plans this weekend? Thanks to Camp Old Navy there’s a fantastic fundraiser on Saturday (9/19) at local @oldnavy stores called the Play it Safe event. Kids will love to learn safety from their community heroes! Meanwhile, the mommas can get their shop on cause there’s a killer sale. #oldnavystyle See you there!
Today I am thrilled to share a fun little project I’ve been working on with & Apparel. Together we curated a darling line of summer staples to add to your wardrobe. In the warmer months I live in skirts and shorts so you will find some playful patterns and everyday pieces as well as the comfiest shorts I will be living in everyday. There’s also comfy tees, some other flirty skirts and darling accessories. I know that I’m no fashion blogger but I like getting dressed in the morning and I love shopping even more.
We used some inspiration from the latest Dear Lizzy collection as a jumpstart for the styles. So you’ll find a cute flamingo bag/clutch and also a pineapple bag. There’s a pair of cute+chic rose gold sandals that you need for summer.
Love this bottom skirt because that guava pink is such a great color right now. See the entire collection here! Thanks so much for joining me on all sorts of creative and life adventures on this blog. Sending cyber hugs, Lizzy
