What Color Are You? #colorcode

sept13lizzy-17-of-18 sept13lizzy-13-of-18

In high school, which seems like forever ago (because it was forever ago), for one of our classes we took a personality test. I remember thinking, whatever this is so lame, like an annoying teenager would. But to this day I still remember my results. I thought it was so awesome because it was spot on. It goes into much more detail but sensitive, moody, sincere, dependable, easily frustrated, creative, and likes to have fun! Could have summed me up.
Well a couple weeks ago, for a church activity with the youth in the church I attend, we took the test. The results were the same except I lost the fun part and it was replaced with the peacemaker color. Which makes sense, I guess, since I’m an old maid now. hehe.
Can you guess what color I am? BLUE. It’s crazy how blue I am. When I read this description it weirds me out that someone could figure out the science of my personality so well. How I deal with situations, conflict as well as needs and wants. Then the next color was white. But I used to be blue/yellow. It made me realize that I want that fun, spontaneous side of me back. (There’s a free test on line you can take at Color Code.)
So the reason I bring this up, is we all know how different kids’ personalities are. Even siblings raised in the same environment with the same parents. As I struggle to discipline, reward, love and nurture these four wonderful souls. I realize that what works with one of them doesn’t work for another. I was trying to figure out what color each one is… and it’s kind of tricky. But I’m figuring it out and how to best respond and validate their needs. Striving to make their light and color be the brightest it can be. And celebrating who each person is! Some days are tougher than others. I definitely live for the small moral victories, a spontaneous hug and kiss. Or Myles’s tender but matter of factly “I like you” that melts my heart.
There’s an awesome article here for kids and personality color coding and a simpler tool below:

Have you taken it? What color are you?

The battle with a spider

Last night I couldn’t sleep. I had a feeling that I might have left the garage door open so I went down there at like 3 am. The door was closed and there weren’t any murderers hiding out. JUST A FREAKING HUGE SPIDER! Like trianchula size. And I realize I probably didn’t spell that spider word correct but there’s no way I’m goggling it and have to see pics of it only to relive this creepy moment. The thing is the second it saw me, like 10 feet away, it crawled/lunged towards me. Fast. Which scared the crap out of me so I screamed and ran around to the other side of the car. Haha. Then I had a grand idea, grabbed the bug spray that has a hose with a trigger and shoot some at it while peeking around the car. It literally just sat there. Then I grabbed a basketball and chucked it at it. I missed because I’ve never had good aim and it run to the wall by the freezer. Now I had it cornered. Also please note I could actually hear its legs crawling when it ran. (shudder) So I mustered up some courage grabbed a pair of skis and killed it. Not my beautiful skis, of course! Some old red and gold ones from the 80’s that Collin is still holding onto because he was skiing and cut off Robert Redford while wearing them or something.
I kinda feel bad now though. Not about the skis, the spider. But that thing would eat me and my children if I would’ve let it live. Or bite me on the arm and I’d lose a limb. Okay, I still feel bad. After that I really couldn’t sleep and I could feel his spider friends coming for revenge on my legs all night. Needless to say my head hurts. Collin is traveling for work or I would’ve been soundly sleeping. I can’t sleep sometimes when he’s gone.
Waking up to these cute pics in my inbox brightened my day though. Love this boy… and donuts! Chocolate is definitely the cure for a tired headache like this!

“You’re not coming to my birthday party”

Sponsored by Zappos

The other day I looked in the mirror, it was one of those loooong days that you just want to end and go to bed before it’s even dark. When 7:25 finally rolls around, “Is it bedtime yet?”
As I was splashing water on my face and cleaning off yesterday’s makeup… I looked like a zombie mommy and that’s being nice. I realized that no matter how dead I look this cute boy of mine has been giving me kisses, asking me to hold him and smiling at me all day. He loves me no matter what. That genuine love is what it’s allllll about and why I adore being his momma. Why I can handle these tough days. Why I appreciate the good days even more. Why I smile so big when I see him wave to me from the top of the slide of the playground before jumps into the tube and slides down. Why I feel like the luckiest.

All the girls were in school so we had some fun one on one time. Myles actually starts preschool (gasp!) That’s crazy! How is he old enough for preschool already?! It’s only two days a week for a few hours so basically I’ll take a shower and get a few things done and he’ll be home. No I don’t take that long of showers, what I mean is, his school time will be done before I know it! 😉

Shared this on Instagram yesterday, but he uninvited me to his birthday party… in April. I don’t even remember what it was about but I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry because it’s basically the biggest insult from a three year old. I think I laughed though.
Pretty soon he will forgive me when he realizes who brings the cake!!

We partnered with Zappos and we both got some new kicks from Superga! They’re this cool Italian brand and definitely inspired me to get out of mommy zombie mode and go on a mom and Myles date. Comfy and stylish snake skill sneaks. Not to mention Myles’s high tops have two zippers on each shoe so you can keep it tied and just unzip off and zip them back on. That’s my favorite kind of kid’s shoe… one that you don’t have to tie! I’ll probably be living in these this fall.

Forever 35

bodysuit + choker
Who says Junior High is the most embarrassing time? I still manage to embarrass myself as a grown adult. Like today, when my daughter answered the door for me and I forgot that I hadn’t snapped the bodysuit and it was untucked. I had also ran errands all morning. Sooo yeah. There’s a reason everyone stopped wearing these in the nineties. Because A: It’s a permanent wedgie and B: Because of what happened to me. But mostly cause the wedgie thing.
Why did I buy a bodysuit you might ask? You see, in my defense, I was with my girls school shopping and we stopped at Forever 21 and I thought I’d just give it a go since it was so cheap. But after this, I realized maybe it’s time I start shopping at Forever 35. bwahaha

Fave Holiday Dresses

fave holiday dresses

Last year we didn’t take any formal family pictures like we typically do. And now as I am coordinating everything I can see why it can be a lot of work to match everyone, find a photographer, talk your husband into it and find a good time for everyone. Then I remembered KISS. Keep it simple stupid. Now I can see why denim on denim was so popular. How easy is that? Everyone put on all the denim in the house!
After searching for something to wear I thought I’d share some of my favorite dresses out there just in case anyone is looking for a holiday or family photo option as well. The striped one above is from Shabby Apple. I love all their recent Winter release!
Also this grey dress is one of my favorites and under 30.

Play + Shop w/ Old Navy

Old Navy Play it Safe

With three girls and a boy, it is pretty incredible to witness how different each little soul is. How they are born with different ways to show love and be loved. With Lola, her love language includes hugs and quality time. To fall asleep I have to be laying by her and she’s a teddy bear that wants snuggles as much as possible. She loves to sit at the table and play with Legos for hours and wants me to join her and make something together. It’s crazy how long those plastic pegs can keep her occupied. I love how Avery is different, and older now, but her love language is talking (including me listening to her for long periods of time) and laughter… with hugs still being important. That one I hope never goes away.
Is it possible that balloons can be a love language too? Cause they definitely are to this four year old…!

The air is getting crisper and I am spotting red trees in the mountains in our backyard. This transition from summer is always refreshing!

The balloons that wouldn’t die

These white, bouncy balloons were in our home for weeks and weeks. I first bought them for Myles birthday in April and they floated around until late May. I loved it. Makes me want to just always have some around. When my kids grow up they’ll think… remember how crazy mom was and she always had giant balloons…? But I got lots of use out of them. See here and here.

This year out of any month so far, May was a complete blur. Birthdays, baptism and our trip to Barcelona. Something else exciting to add to the list was being featured as the Ruchette of the month at one of my favorite online shops–Ruche. They sent me seven of their favorite pieces and I put together 10 outfits mixing and matching a polka dot dress, yellow skirt, striped blazer, scalloped shirt, plain white tee, navy pencil skirt, and a sweater. I love the idea of quality not quantity in what you put in your closet. To buy pieces that are more timeless and I can wear over and over. Check out all the looks here.

Today RUCHE has free shipping on the Ruchette pieces that ends tonight. Pick yourself up something new.  xo, Lizzy

Road trip potty break aka Maternity shoot

On our road trip to California we stopped for an impromptu photo shoot/ potty break. These were taken about a week and a half ago and it’s amazing how much this belly has grown already.
I am officially counting down from 4 weeks and kinda freaking out. Just have lots to get and organize to prepare for our little guy. Oh, and I also STILL haven’t figured out a name. aye yiyi! You’ll find Collin and I saying names all night hoping one will stick.

It actually wasn’t until I found myself walking around Disneyland pregnant & pushing a double stroller while holding Avery’s hand that I realized… ummmm, we have quite the bunch of sprouts. People looked at Collin and I like we must be crazy with all these kids. Lots of staring… and counting. haha

Pictures taken at about 35 weeks.

Some fun posts over at PAPER PARTY!

Mom’s Best Network & Awesome Giveaway

This morning Quincey saw these pictures and said she wanted to go back there…!!! Oh, to that cool building where you got to run around with a new friend? Where we gave you heart suckers, balloons and dolled you up like a stylin princess? I’m sure you do. Instead I kissed her cheek and she’s at preschool for the next couple hours. But Saturday we did have a blast with my good friend (from our days of braces, bangs and high school soccer games) Heather as the photographer & Tana, the founder of Mom’s Best. Tana invited me to kick off their new series all about motherhood. Since being a mom is the toughest, greatest thing I’ve ever done–I was in.
This week there were a few events in my life that really caused me to stop, take a deep breath and reevaluate where I give of myself. For one, my darling niece was born and is in the NICU… such an angel and amazing fighter. The second she was born she changed me. How this tiny angel had that kind of power and influence on me isn’t surprising… children are so pure and innocent and see this world more simple than we do. We are the ones that complicate it all.  This week I wasn’t the one to let go of a hug first. I squeezed each of my darling bugs until they let go. And even then they had to wriggle their way out of my tight embrace.
Don’t get me wrong… being a mommy is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Why else do you think I have a hidden treat stash and hide in my bedroom for a couple minutes of peace. Which sometimes backfires with Cheerios all over the floor. Ah, I don’t know I’m not one to be poetic or good with explaining my thoughts, but I do know how my heart feels every single day when Lola points to a mole on my cheek and says, “Mommmy, is an owie?” And kisses it better. And I know I don’t want to be too distracted or busy to miss that…

What are 3 things we may not know about you?
-My husband, Collin, was my first date in high school. He asked me to the Homecoming Dance. When he was driving me home after our date he came to a complete stop at a green light. I think he was a little nervous.
-I took a darkroom class in college and dream of having my own darkroom someday so I could spend the day taking pictures with my film camera then develop the pictures later that day. It’s such a cool and dreamy process… with lots of stinky chemicals.
-If I could be anywhere at this moment it would be at a secluded beach somewhere in a hammock, pina colada in hand, painted toe nails with my feet in the sand, sound of kids playing in the distance, sun on my face… I could go on and on.
If there is 1 thing you have learned and could share to inspire and help other women/mothers what would it be?
Sheesh, I feel like I am still learning so much as a woman/mother… but something that I am striving to do is not to compare myself to others. A couple years ago I had a quote on my inspiration board, “Find you. Be you. Be happy with that.” I loved it because at times I feel myself trying to fit into another mold or trying to be like someone else. But I need to focus on what I do best and my natural gifts that can bless others’ lives. I mean, I don’t know anyone else who can eat a bag of Peanut M&M’s as fast as I can. That’s something I need to embrace and be proud of! ; )

We also have a giveaway today. I’m in love with the perfectly styled outfits from Peek Clothing! And you can win a gift card to their online (or check their locations). There’s also a pair of See Kai Run shoes in the giveaway… there are so many styles to choose from and my girls loved them. Quincey would have slept in them…! Also some darling clippies from Ribbies. Basically you’ll be all set and ready to photograph your cutie after you win this!
