Star Gazer! New Dear Lizzy Collection

Star Gazer is the newest Dear Lizzy collection that’s just released for summer. It’s an everyday collection inspired by the coming of fall and celebrating the last of summer. Which is exactly what I feel like right now with the kids starting school… holding onto the magic and adventure of this season! As usual I love the papers. That’s always my favorite part! There’s so many cute patterns. I love the washi tape and the giant paper clips with wood shapes on the end. Super fun! I can’t wait to see what you create!! And know that school is officially in session I get to make some time to create too! Thanks so much for loving Dear Lizzy products and following our journey here. Love you guys!! xoxox

Mini Albums Tips

Get it done with these(1)
You guys, it’s a Christmas miracle. I actually scrapbooked. And not only that, but I finished the project. Yay! I had so much fun putting this mini album together for my Lolaberry.  I still love creating. Everything about the process, the supplies, the colors and textures… It’s crazy how much time I spend on something like this. But it is priceless and I know Lola will cherish it. Spending time in my studio is something I really miss. I’ve made countless mini albums over the years and I put together some tips for creating a mini album.

mini album tips

  1. All About That Base
Find a theme for the pages. I start a mini album by gathering something interesting to use for the pages. In this case, I found a stash of old Dear Lizzy white ruffle paper and I wanted to incorporate it. So when I am organizing the album I think of a theme for the pages. What I mean by that is, I use a handful of papers and then rotate them through out the album. For this one: polka dot vellum with confetti, ruffle paper with phrase thickers, clear acetate with circles, and white cardstock with embellishments. That is the base of the album that I repeat a 3-4 times. Then I add in a few different pages to keep it interesting. I included a page of Lola’s coloring, a piece of fabric sewed on cardstock and a pocket page just for fun.

  2. Rinse and Repeat
Next, it can be overwhelming to think of scrapbooking each page of a mini album. To streamline the process, but still have fun and be creative, I choose a couple techniques and repeat them. For this one I chose watercolor, sewing and simple stamping. For the cardstock pages I first watercolored on each one. Then added stamping, ink splatter as well as flags and stickers. Repeated on all the pages with white cardstock. It was so fun and since I stuck with that I finished the project faster instead of having to think of something different for each one. I also added sewing to a few pages.

  3. Filler-up With Photos
For me, so much of scrapbooking is about the photos. I think that full page photos are eye-catching and… fill up mini albums faster so that I get the project done. Which is my main goal these days. Instagram photo books are so easy. I mean, with Chatbooks they are put together and sent to my door automatically. (If you haven’t tried Chapbooks use my code Lizzy to get your first book free! 🙂 Since I still love creating, having full page photos gives it the feel of modern photo book but by designing a mini album it gives me the freedom to get creative and add a homemade touch to the keepsake. Something with a deeper meaning, handwritten love notes to treasure and tangible details.

Hey hey hey

Hi everyone, it’s Emma here to share another page I created using the gorgeous new collection, Lovely Day!  I think I mentioned last time that the papers of Lovely Day have me smitten so I created this next page by picking a few of my favourites from the double-sided and single-sided 12×12 paper pad.

Here is a look at the page I created:
DL_Feb17_hey_1C

I absolutely adore that blue floral paper from the 12×12 paper pad.  It’s just so pretty! I used as my background, then put the white cardstock on top so it created a frame for my page.  I hand cut the banners from my other favourite papers, I went with 2 of each in shades of blue, yellow and black/white.  Then I just machine stitched down the centre to keep them in place!DL_Feb17_hey_4

For my embellishments I used three of the layered stickers at the top, middle and bottom of my page and spaced over the height of my banners.  I popped one of the stickers on top of the rosette layered sticker.  This actually wasn’t my original plan but the colours matched and it meant I didn’t need to work out any extra spacing for my title.  Win win!DL_Feb17_hey_S1

I typed up my journaling on the computer (using an old typewriter font), printed it out and tucked it just underneath the photo on the white/black flower paper.  I like how it kind of blends in with the paper and doesn’t distract you too much.

I fixed a little heart chipboard piece near the blue papers just because the colours matched and hearts (or stars!) seem to be a necessity for my pages.  I like to put them everywhere 🙂DL_Feb17_hey_S6

I love the dimension of this page – all thanks to those layered stickers!  They’re perfect and I still love the fact they have foam dots on the backs which helps lift them off your page a little more.

This page came together rather quickly (for me that is, I’m a rather slow scrapper..) which I love.  I even adhered/stitched  it all down in the one sitting!  (I usually put a page together and leave it overnight then stick it down the next day. You know…incase I want to change things 😉  But I was happy with this one straight away, love that!).DL_Feb17_hey_5

Thanks for joining me on the blog today, I hope it’s inspired you to start creating your own masterpiece using the gorgeous papers of Lovely Day!

Take care, Em xo

My fave paper! I always love the cut-a-parts! Sorry it was super dark so these pics aren’t the best. Love how it gets dark at 5 pm (insert eyeroll!) But sweet Lola was such a trooper and helped me display the goodies. I’m so inspired to make a mini album this week for CHA and we will be filming a walk through of all the products this week. I bribed and begged Collin to help me and so he said he would! haha Yay! xoxo Lots of love, Lizzy

New Dear Lizzy: Lovely Day

Print
(My computer is still dead so I’m on this crappy laptop that barely loaded these pics… computer problems are my nemesis. hehe)
For some of you that don’t know there’s an important holiday in January! Or at least it should be considered a holiday. ; ) CHA… craft hobby association! ie: new products start popping up and makes all of us dream of hoarding everything. And lots of us do. 🙂  SO add this one to the list of must haves cause it’s freaking adorable!!! (Prepare for lots of exclamation points in this post! lol) The newest Dear Lizzy collection is Lovely Day!! This has some of my favorite icons of all time… the fox and bunny, chic topknot crafter and car with luggage on top. All the heart eyes!
I love the uplifting and cheeky phrases and the colors! Can’t wait to share more! I’m picking up a box of these these goodies tomorrow and I’ll be having some creative fun and film a video so you can see them up close! I made a few projects but they’re being shipped to CHA at the moment for the craft conference in a couple weeks! I always get excited, nervous and anxious to share new stuff so I hope you guys love it! Oh, did I mention the coloring washi tape? A fun twist to the coloring book craze plus it’s adorable. There’s some coloring 12×12 papers too!
Thanks so much for all your support and enthusiasm over the years! Lots of love, Lizzy

Shoot for the Moon

Hi everyone! I’m excited to share this layout using the newest Dear Lizzy Saturday collection and a little stamping with the cute house stamps. I’m terrible at using stamps; it’ss not that I don’t like them, because there are some adorable stamps out there that I love, it just never occurs to me to actually use them. I guess if I’m completely honest, I find them a little bit intimidating, and I’ve no idea why, haha. But every now and then I like to give it a shot which is how this layout came about. The stamp set from the Saturday collection has the cutest little buildings and I thought it would look fun teamed with a photo I recently took of the moon (I love getting snaps of the moon, call me crazy).

I picked 3 fun and bright colours – yellow, pink and teal (..not that I have a whole lot of variety of
colours in my stash!) and stamped each building along the bottom.
dl_aug16_moon_stamp1a
As usual I ended up with one building having a less than perfect impression (that teal one!! Grr!) – I swear the more I try to get a perfect impression, the less likely I am to get it, haha.
dl_aug16_moon_stamp3

But rather than start again (this was already attempt #2, lol) I thought I’d add some dimension to the bottom of the page so I just stamped them again on a scrap piece of white cardstock.

dl_aug16_moon_stamp4

Once I’d stamped a few I just used scissors to cut them to shape (leaving a small white border the whole way around). Then I popped a foam dot behind and stuck them straight on top of my less than perfect impressions on the page. Problem solved! Here’s how my page finished up:
dl_aug16_moon_1a
I wanted the page to be fairly neutral except for my bright buildings along the bottom so I teamed the chipboard thickers (which I think are a perfect match!!) with a few co-ordinating black/white pieces (I used a sheet from the 6×6 paper pad, die-cuts and black varnish stickers). I enlisted help from Pinterest to find a quote about the moon and just typed it up on the computer using a typewriter font.

dl_aug16_moon_3

Because I scrap 6×8 pages, often I’m stuck on where to put my journaling, I mean there is only so much room on the page and more often than not, I want the photo/title to be the feature of the page, so I’ll often add it either behind the photo or on the back of my page. Almost all of my
layouts have journaling of some description, it’s just that often you can’t see it
☺ In this case I popped it on the back! Just stuck it onto one of the die-cut cards, used a strip of wash and included one of the stickers to help pretty it up a bit. Easy one!

dl_aug16_moon_2    dl_aug16_moon_6

Given my journaling is often “hidden” I’ve had a few people question me about how I actually read it once they’re stored in albums.
I use the Studio Calico 6×8 Handbooks to store my layouts. I’m not sure about you, but I file all my pages back to back in the pockets (so 2 pages per pocket back to back, means I can cram more pages into the album!)

dl_aug16_moon_storage4

I’m not sure about you, but I file all my pages back to back in the pockets (so 2 pages per pocket back to back, means I can cram more pages into the album!) I average somewhere between 13-15 plastic pockets per album so depending on how chunky my pages are, I manage to get anywhere from 20-30 scrapbook layouts per album which is pretty good!

dl_aug16_moon_storage1

But back to the question! When I add journaling on the back I just don’t put another page behind it once it’s in the pocket. That way when I’m flipping through the album I don’t need to take it out to read it (which is what I have to do when I tuck it behind the photo, but I can live with that! ☺)

DIY: Party Hat Garland

party hat garland
Hi everyone!  Emma here to share a quick little garland DIY. I love all types of garlands – they are such a simple way to add pops of colour to your space (especially if your room is a plain white like mine!).  I’ve already shared another garland using the Happy Place collection so it’s only fair I create another one using the new Saturday line!

party hat garland

I’m always scrolling through Pinterest for ideas and inspiration and I had the most gorgeous little party hat garland pop into my feed.  The instructions are so easy to follow so I won’t share them again. Found via House Lars Built. I followed the instructions almost to the letter except I cut my templates using my Silhouette Cameo rather than a pair of scissors (figured I’ve got a machine that can do it, so why not!) and I didn’t paint the paper because I was using patterned paper already!  They are so easy to make so I did snap some photo’s as I was going incase it helps you.

If you need anything from this newest collection it’s the wood veneer numbers and shapes! Love them so. And the 12×12 paper pack, clothes pins and the Project Life kit and and…  Seriously everything makes my hoarding heart happy.
All Dear Lizzy products are 40% off still… and they stocked some of the Fine & Dandy collection and Happy Place which have some cute stuff!

Love this page by Olatz:

This new collection is quickly becoming one of my favorites! I have to admit that when I saw the Saturday collection for the first time I thought it seemed like a city/travel/getaway/weekend themed collection. But when I begin to work with it, oh well, the ideas started to flow in so many directions. It really is such a versatile collection!
As you can see here, I used the Saturday collection to create a birthday layout for my little niece. I chose a soft color palette of white, mint, pink and a pop of black to go with the theme of the layout. So cute! I love how numbers are repeated thought the collection on papers, stickers and embellishments. And they are just the perfect icon for this spread, aren’t they? 😉

New Dear Lizzy Collection: Saturday

IMG_3222b
Unnamed (5)

Today I am thrilled to share some sneak peeks and close looks at the newest Dear Lizzy collection- Saturday! I love the colors and the crisp patterns. Happy Place had such a vacation vibe. I imagined it as if you were on vacation with your girlfriends to Palm Springs. This has a city vibe mixed through out! Before I meet with designers for each collection I come up with a story to help everyone get on the same page and illustrate it better. For Saturday, I imagined a girl who lives in Brooklyn, New York. She loves exploring the city, stashing away memorabilia from her day in a junk journal, Meg Ryan movies (which you will find a couple quotes here and there), mixing patterns, painting during her kids nap time, capturing and creating memories of her everyday! There’s a fun mix of icons to work with for a wide variety of projects. There’s also lots of numbers used in creative ways on paper and products. Including wood veneer numbers, chipboard number tags and cardstock number accents in the Bits. The puffy stickers are one of my favorites as well as the beaded strings!!! I’ll share more through out the week! Can’t wait to see how you create with it! xoxo Lizzy
